Dr. Farzan Ghannad

Dr. Farzan Ghannad, founder of North Vancouver’s Northshore Implant Perio Centre (IPC), is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontists, the British Columbia Society of Periodontists as well as the American Academy of Periodontists. As a Certified Specialist in Periodontics and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Ghannad is involved in surgical and didactic training of future dentists and specialists in the field of periodontics. Currently he maintains a private practice in Vancouver and routinely provides specialty care in the Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan.


Dr. Farzan Ghannad grew up in Ottawa and attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. After a few successful years in private practice, he completed an intense three-year surgical specialty residency at the University of British Columbia, for which he earned a Masters in Craniofacial Science as well as a Diploma in Periodontics and Implant Surgery.

Dr. Farzan Ghannad has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the “Kathleen McAnulty Memorial Prize”, the “Nobel BioCare Achievement Award”, and the “Biomet 3i Canada Inc Prize” for excellence in clinical performance. He was also among the few to be awarded the “UBC DMD Graduate Teaching Assistant Award” in 2011/12.

Farzan is devoted to his patients’ ultimate comfort and care at the state of the art Northshore Implant Perio Centre in North Vancouver; but his time away from his dental practice is dedicated to engaging in an active lifestyle, including spending as much time as possible skiing on the mountains during the winter season and cycling around our beautiful city.

Dr. Farzin Ghannad was born in Tehran grew up in Goettingen, Germany where he obtained his dental degree in 1996. He then moved to Ottawa where he maintained a successful general practice for over 6 years. He completed his training in periodontics and implant surgery in 2007 at the University of British Columbia. Dr Farzin Ghannad as a Clinical Assistant Professor is involved in surgical and didactic training of future dentists and specialists in the field of periodontics. Currently he is the associate director of the graduate periodontics and implant surgery at the University of British Columbia. Besides his affiliation with Vancouver general hospital he maintains two full time practices in Vancouver and Kamloops. As a locum periodontist he has been providing periodontal and implant treatment to the community of Northwest Territory since 2010. 

Dr Farzin Ghannad lectures nationally and internationally. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontists, the British Columbia Society of Periodontists as well as the American Academy of Periodontists.

Family is very important to Dr. Farzin Ghannad. As a devoted husband and father he enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible. Dr. Farzin Ghannad loves to travel and spend his summers outdoors and winters on the slopes.

Dr. David Alfaro 


BSc, DDS, MSc, FRCD(C)
Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics


Dr. Alfaro was born and raised in Vancouver, and after a brief stint of studying Jazz both in Canada and the US, he obtained his B.Sc. in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. He then decided to pursue a career in dentistry and obtained his D.D.S at Columbia University in New York. It was there where he was introduced to the field of Prosthodontics.

Fortunately, the year that Dr. Alfaro was completing his training in New York, UBC Dentistry planned an expansion of their Graduate Programs in Dentistry to include prosthodontics, and he was accepted and graduated in the first class of the Graduate Prosthodontics program. During his graduate training, Dr. Alfaro gained valuable didactic and clinical training in all aspects of complex prosthodontics, including implant dentistry, crown and bridge dentistry, removable prosthodontics, and hospital based dentistry. A key component of the UBC Graduate Dental programs was an interdisciplinary treatment planning seminar, which offered students the opportunity to discuss complex treatments requiring the care of multiple specialists.

Dr. Sepehr Zahedi 


DDS, MSc (Dental Anaesthesiology)

Dr. Sepehr Zahedi is one of only 3 dentists in BC with a MSc in dental anaesthesiology. He is a graduate of the Dental Anesthesiology program at the University of Toronto, a three-year graduate degree. Prior to this, he also attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Toronto. Dr. Zahedi maintains general anesthesia and sedation for dentistry facilities in lower mainland and is also a associate professor at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Dentistry in the field of pediatric sedation as well as local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. 


Dr. Zahedi has tailored his practice to accommodate patients who are very dentally anxious, medically compromised or developmentally delayed.   In his spare time, Sepehr volunteers at the Vancouver downtown eastside dental clinic offering free dental care to the homeless and needy. He is an avid soccer player and fan!

Dr. Yoko Tsukada 


BSc (Nutritional Science), MSc, DMD, FRCD(C)

Dr. Yoko Tsukada is a Canadian Board Certified specialist in oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial pathology. She graduated from Boston University and completed a post-graduate Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology residency program at University of British Columbia (UBC)/Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). 
In addition to working in private practice, Dr. Tsukada is involved in the following areas:
 
  • Clinical Assistant Professor at Faculty of Dentistry, UBC
  • Attending staff at VGH Dentistry/Oral Health Centre (Oral Mucosal Disease Program and Orofacial Pain/Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorder Program)
  • Oral oncology staff at British Columbia Cancer Agency (Oral Oncology outpatient clinic and Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program)

Dr. Tsukada is bilingual: Japanese and English.
